Gulf Shores is gearing up for what will be one of the most anticipated events of the fall season. The 46th Annual National Shrimp Festival is just a few weeks away.

This four-day event begins on October 12th and lasts till October 15th. It's anticipated that over 300,000 people will be in attendance this year.

Besides great food, there'll be entertainment with more than 80 hours of music featuring a lineup of national, regional and local acts. Beginning Thursday, musicians of all genres will fill East and West Beach with tunes including southern rock, jazz, blues, Motown, zydeco and country.

More than 50 local and regional vendors will line the public beach boardwalk with hundreds of pounds of shrimp being fried, blackened or boiled per day. You'll be able to enjoy some of the area's best chefs with their own award-winning recipes. Gumbo, alligator, chicken on a stick and even the basic corn dog is just a few of the items you'll find.  Stir fry dishes, fresh lemonade and many types of sweets, including the beloved funnel cakes, will be available. Come with a big appetite. Stop by the sponsor tent for free tasting samples at different times.

For those wanting to work up an appetite, runners and walkers can enter the 10K and 5K races.  You can make a difference as well with all the net proceeds being donated to Coastal Baldwin Education Enrichment. Slower walkers can enjoy the more than 200 booths of fine art and crafts vendors. Whether you come hungry or work up an appetite, you shouldn't leave that way. Fill up with something good to eat and don't miss all the other events.

The Annual Sand Sculpture Contest happens on Saturday. This is a family fun event that the kids will love. Other activities include Outdoor World, the Children's Village and Singing for Scholarships. Outdoor World is a strip dedicated to coastal wildlife. Fishing, boating, and hunting vendors have various setups and hands on activities for every age to enjoy. Singing for Scholarships is a competition open to high school singers. These students from several local schools will compete for scholarships with top three winners. The Children's Activity Village includes arts, crafts, games, entertainment, music just for kids, face-painting, karaoke and much more.
